  1. Decomposed Granite:

This is usually reddish-tan in color and provides the landscape a soft and a rustic look. A considerable amount of dust is generated by prolonged using of this river rock on ways for navigation. This is quite affordable and often used around the trees, garden trails, etc.

  1. Pea Gravel:

As per its name suggests, the sizes of these river rocks are the same as the size of a pea. Usually, these are ¼ to 1/8 inch in size with different color combinations which are available in a range from white to tan brown. This is versatile in nature and has a wide range of uses. It is used in driveways and to fill the spaces between the stone pavers. These rocks have a specialty in the fact that they act as weed barriers and are also not easily decomposable like mulch.

  1. Crushed Granite Gravel:

This is usually used in the yards because it provides a considerable good look, or we can say enhances or aggregates the look of the place. It has smaller particles than the actual decomposed granite that acts as a barrier to good transition in between the garden plants and the pathways.

  1. Lava Rock:

This rock is usually of bold colors and is made up of actual lava from the volcanoes. The accent of this rock is pretty, and hence when put into use in any landscape design, it exaggerates the beauty and prettiness of the whole area and makes the view beautiful. Climate-specific behavior is also seen in this type. It is ideal for the drier climates, as it absorbs heat throughout the daytime, and releases throughout the night. Another good quality of this rock is that it is very light in weight and thus can be easily transported from one place to another. This quality has made it possible for the wide range of distribution of the lava rocks, along with its wide use.

  1. River Rock:

These river rocks are a bit larger in size than the pea gravel and are smooth in texture as well. Their different variations can be taken together for use that results in the formation of a pretty border for the garden, or dry creek beds. These rocks leave large spaces in between them, and hence they can be called porous. Their porosity makes them usable for direct drainage through its area. This prevents waterlogging to a great extent, which is a good measure for plants because plants are not able to stand waterlogging conditions to a greater extent. These are also very versatile in nature and have relatively more uses than the other types of river rocks, from charming rustic pathways to artistic courtyards.

The choosing of a particular type of rock omr of different types depends entirely on the choice of the person to be using those. If a perfect choice is made, the quality and look of the landscape are enhanced to great extents.
