Help! My Pipes Are Leaking

Are you currently dealing with leaking pipes! If so, don’t worry, you have come to the right place! Throughout Australia, leaky pipes are wreaking havoc.

In fact, plumbers are in hot demand because these leaky pipe issues never seem to end. Luckily, if you need help dealing with your leaky pipes, there are professionals around to help you out! For now, read this informative article for all the things you need to know when it comes to leaky pipes.

How to Find Water Leaks

It can feel almost impossible to detect water leaks sometimes. However, there are ways to do it. Let’s take a look at these two wonderful ways to find leaks without breaking the bank or having your house ruined.

Finding Water Leaks Without a Water Meter

There are many ways that you can find out if your pipes may be leaking. While some may put it down to a leaky faucet or leaky toilet, some leaks go far beyond that and get worse as time goes by. Here are some things to look and listen for when worried about a leaky pipe:

  • Warm spots underneath your concrete floor in random spots
  • The sound of running water despite no water being used
  • A large spike in your water bills
  • A change in your water meter when water isn’t being used
  • Wet spots on your walls or floors
  • Bad smells within your home or outside

If you notice discoloured tiles surrounding your bath or shower, this is a sign of water damage from a leak. A good way to see if your bath or shower is your issue, just splash a small amount of water on the seams.

This is an easy fix. However, for more severe leaks you will need to call a plumber.

Finding Water Leaks with a Water Meter

Your water meter cannot directly pinpoint where the leak is. However, it is still helpful to have an indication of whether or not the leak actually exists inside or outside your home.

Here is a little guide to help you detect a leak with your water meter:

  1. Find your water meter and write down the reading
  2. Don’t use your water for a few hours
  3. Head to your water meter again and see if any water has been used

How to Fix a Leak

When stressed, it can be enticing to try to fix your plumbing issue yourself to avoid spending money. However, this is the last thing you should do. Usually, fixing it yourself only causes more issues which make you spend more money later on.

Fix the issue once and for all with a good plumber by your side.

The Bottom Line

If you have a leaky pipe that you’re worried about, don’t panic. Instead, call your nearest plumber to help you fix the issue. An experienced, educated, and reliable plumber can help you fix the leak and avoid further leaks.

They will also be able to identify any other leaks.
