Indonesian Student Accidentally Becomes Millionaire After Turning His Selfies Into NFTs

A student from Indonesia accidentally turned himself a millionaire after turning hundreds of his selfies into NFTs, which are Non Fungible Tokens.

Sultan Gustaf Al Ghozali took a picture of himself for almost every single day for the last 5 years and the results that he got are pretty amazing.

Each picture that he took of himself is virtually the same, considering that all he did is stare into the camera and show no emotion.

The idea behind his project was to create a time-lapse video of himself, which he would then use during his graduation.

But the thing is, Ghozali, who is just 22, managed to turn his project into a money-making scheme.

People on the internet are currently lining up for his project for thousands of dollars.

In case you have no clue what an NFT is, don’t worry, we got you.

A non-fungible token is a non-interchangeable unit of data stored on a blockchain, a form of digital ledger. Types of NFT data units may be associated with digital files such as photos, videos, and audio. Because each token is uniquely identifiable, NFTs differ from blockchain cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin.

Ghozali, who is a computer science student, had originally priced his pictures at just 0.00001 ETH, which is equivalent to around $3.

The thing is the price changed right away and his video is now selling for over $12,000.

Talking about his pictures, Ghozali said:

“Uploading my photo into NFT lol. Can’t believe people actually bought my photo NFT, 35 already sold in one day.”

The thing is, on January 11, over 200 of his selfies got sold.

Yes, more than 200 in just a single day and all the pictures are about him staring at the camera without any emotions.

During an interview with AFP, Ghozali said that people got fond of his pictures after a celebrity chef picked up a couple of the pictures for himself.

He added:

“I was thinking it might be funny if one of the collectors collected my face. I never thought anybody would want to buy the selfies, which is why I only priced them at $3.”

Fast forward to January 22, 2022, the young man’s pictures are being sold for around 4ETH, which is now equivalent to around $12,508.

This means that the entire collection of Ghozali, which he calls “Ghozali Everyday” is worth around 374 ETH, which is equivalent to $1.2 million.

That’s not bad for taking pictures of yourself everyday, right?

Right now, Ghozali plans to use his wealth to invest in setting up his own animation studio.

The best thing about this story is that Ghozali has not told his parents about how much money he has made from selling the pictures that he took of himself.

Talking about telling his parents, he said:

To be honest I still haven’t got the courage to tell my parents, they would be wondering where I got the money from.

Pretty amazing for simply posting your pictures on the internet, right?
