The couple recalled the moment their 3-month-old daughter Maeve Lily’s dramatic birth, which happened in the front seat of the Tesla.

Yiran began having contractions in the middle of the night on September. The couple got through the night and on the morning of that day, the parents took it easy.

Yiran even did the laundry that day and got their son ready for school before heading out.

The couple already have a 3-year-old son named Rafa and said that they were ready to welcome a second child in their house.

Keating put their son in the backseat of the car, he checked out his wife and found that her water had broken down.

At that moment, he knew that it was time to take her to the hospital despite Yiran telling him to drop their son at school first.

With their son still in the back part of the car, the parents set out for a drive from their house to Wayne to Paoli Hospital and at this point, Yiran was crouching on the floor in front of the passenger seat due to strong contractions.

The thing is, the avenue that they were taking was packed with rush-hour traffic.

Keating utilized the Tesla’s autopilot feature and attended to his wife, whose contractions at this point were one minute apart.

Talking about the moment, Keating said:

“She was squeezing my hand to the point where I thought she was going to shatter it. I was saying to Yiran: “OK, focus on your breathing.” That was advice to myself, as well. My adrenaline was pumping. I said, “Rafa, everything’s fine. Your baby sister is arriving.”

By the time they reached the hospital, Yiran had already given birth.

The good thing is that a pediatrician was outside the hospital and nurses rushed to the Tesla right away to cut the baby’s umbilical cord over the car’s front seat.

Nurses at the hospital gave the little one a nickname, the “Tesla baby” after the incident.

The parents actually wanted to give Maeve the name “Tess” as a reminder on where she was born. However, the couple ended up going with Lily, which they went with as a tribute to Yiran’s mother.

The couple met each other while teaching at the Rainbow Bridge International School in Shanghai, China.
