Neurologic diseases are referred to a wide array of conditions related to the filtration and discharge of urine out of the body. These diseases are found to affect men women and children of all ages. However these diseases are locale specific in the body. In females it basically involves the urinary tract and in males they can affect the reproductive organs as well as the urinary tract. Out of a wide range of urological diseases and disorders, few important and common ones are identified by the American Urological Association Foundation, and are discussed below.
- Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia or BPH: is the first one to name on the list. The name is however due to an enlargement in the prostate gland. Mostly common in older men, but not completely unrelated to prostate cancer.
Symptoms mostly revolve around the pressure caused by the enlargement of the prostate on the urethra, which is narrow tube carrying urine from the bladder and expelling it outside. People with benign prostatic hyperplasia often experience a frequent urge for micturition. This is associated with weak flow of urine and a persistent feeling that the bladder cannot be emptied even after repeated urination.
Diagnosis of such a case involves a careful monitoring of the condition and prescription of necessary medications likealpha blockers. Extreme cases are often treated with surgery.
- URINARY INCONTINENCE: Quite a common and embarrassing urinary problem nowadays, urinary incontinence refers to the loss of bladder control. The condition causes unwanted leakage of urine. Few common causes of the same, include pregnancy or childbirth, an enlarged prostate, diabetes, overactive urinary bladder, weak sphincter muscles that support the urethra, injury to the spinal cord, urinary tract infections, weak bladder muscles, Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis and even severe constipation. Extensive lifestyle changes such as the regulation of fluid intake can also cause urinary incontinence. Apart from these there can also be a number of other underlying causes which needs to be explored.
- Urinary Tract Infections: These mostly result from the invasion of pathogenic bacteria or viruses into the urinary tract, thereby causing infection. These are more common in women than in men. Symptoms include a burning sensation or excessive irritation during urination. Also others include frequent exhortation for urination and dissatisfaction in the same. Best urologist in India gives necessary antibiotics, which generally release the condition within a week.
- Kidney Problems and ureteral stones: Development of stones in the kidneys can result from the presence of crystals and other small particles surrounding the same, in urine. Ureteral stones are mobile and moves from the kidney to the ureter, connecting the bladder. Hence these can block the flow of urine and cause intense pain. Small stones can be expelled out with or without medical help, but the larger ones usually result in blockage and are generally operated out through surgical procedures. One such procedure is extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) which utilizes sound waves for breaking the stones into much smaller pieces; so that they can be expelled out easily. Yet other urological conditions include bladder cancer, hematuria, overactive bladder etc.
