Professor Gets Box Filled With $180,000 Mailed Anonymously To Him So He Could Help Struggling Students

This professor just wants to change the world. 

On the last day of September this year, Dr. Vinod  Menon, the head of the physics department at Harlem’s City College of New York Campus, was left stunned when he opened a 9-month-old package that contained around $180,000. 

He was tasked to use the money to anonymously help out  his students, particularly the ones  that  were  going through a lot of things in life. 

The money that he found was in the 50s and 100s wrapped in paper bands .

There was also an anonymous letter and a return address t o an alias were all  that accompanied the parcel  which was addressed to the “Head of the Physics Department.”

During an interview with CNN, Dr Menon said:  

I’ve never seen this kind of money in real life in cash form. I’ve never seen it except in movies, and so, yeah, I was shell shocked and I just did not know how to react.

The thing is, the person who sent the money used the US Postal System, which is not a safe way to send the money to someone, considering that everything was in cash.

The money was used to help students that were looking to pursue physics and other sciences courses. 

City College of New York is one of the most-productive public university systems in the United States of America and their physics department is one of the best in the world.

Three Nobel laureates in physics have received their graduation from the Harlem’s City College of New York Campus.

In 1921, Albert Einstein gave one of his first lectures at the Harlem campus.

The letter that was with the money said: 

Assuming that you are a bit curious as to why I am doing this, the reason is straightforward.

The letter also explained that the person who sent the money took advantage of the excellent educational opportunity that’s available at City College to study physics, earn a master’s and pursue a scientific career.

The alias return address was to Kyle Paisley, a name that is absent from the graduation logs, at a house in Pensacola, Florida. The owner of that property has no idea who Kyle is.

The money was first treated as evidence, however after a 2 month long investigation, the money was not linked with any criminal activity.

The Board of Trustees held a vote to see if they would keep the money and actually, they did.

Dr. Menon noted that the gift is going to provide for 2 fully funded scholarships every year for a decade.

He also said  that he would try to see it go into the hands of students that had the fewest means, particularly the ones that are immigrants.
