The voting time for the election of the next Vice-President of the country has come to an end. Counting of votes will start shortly. There is a contest between NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar and opposition candidate Margaret Alva for the post.

More than 85 percent of MPs voted for the election of Vice President till 2 pm
More than 85 percent voter turnout has been recorded till 2 pm in the Vice Presidential election. Officials informed that out of 780 MPs of both the houses, around 670 have cast their vote so far. Significantly, eight other Rajya Sabha seats are vacant. PM Modi and former PM Manmohan Singh exercised their franchise in the morning. The Trinamool Congress, which has 39 MPs, including 23 in the Lok Sabha, had already announced its decision to abstain from this election.

TMC asks Suvendu’s father not to vote
The Trinamool Congress, which had announced to stay away from the Vice Presidential election, wrote a letter to Sishir Adhikari, father of Suvendu Adhikari. In this, Shishir has been asked not to vote in the Vice Presidential election. It is noteworthy that while Suvendu has joined the BJP, his father Shishir Adhikari, MP from Bengal, is still a part of TMC.
