Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, inaugurated the phase 1 of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The project is one of the biggest projects of 2021 and it is aimed directly towards the followers of the Hindu religion and to boost tourism in Uttar Pradesh.

Inauguration Of The Kashi Vishwanath Corridor Project 

On December 13, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the phase 1 of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India. Before officially inaugurating the corridor, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the labourers who were involved in the construction of the project with flowers. He also expressed his gratitude to all the laborers that are working on the project.

The foundation of the project was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 8, 2019. Many say this project is the dream project of Narendra Modi, the current Prime Minister of the country. 

The Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor was inaugurated to facilitate the pilgrims and devotees of the Hindu religion. The main goal of the project is to help out the devotees to have a great time, to take a dip in the holy river easily, collect Gangajal, and offer it at the baba VIshwanath temple without facing any issues. The Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor will also allow devotees to easily connect to the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple to the banks of the River Ganga.

The project will be developing buildings that will offer facilities to the devotees and pilgrims that will be visiting the Shri Vishwanath Temple.

The Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor has also provided a lot of job opportunities for locals and laborers. Right now, thousands of workers are working on the project. Not only that, but the project also involved the purchase of more than 300 properties around Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The project has also successfully rehabilitated around 1400 shopkeepers, tenants, and homeowners.

Interesting Facts About The Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor

  • First Phase Budget

According to a report, the first phase project will cost the government around 399 crores. 

Please do note that this is the cost of the first phase of the project that PM Modi inaugurated. No other information about the project was shared with the public. 

  • Total Estimated Cost Of The Project 

The total estimated cost of the project is around Rs. 800 crores, which is around $105,006,640 USD. 

Note: This is the total estimated cost of the project that Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched in March of 2019. 

  • 50 Feet Wide Corridor 

According to official data, the corridor will be increasing near the Kashi VIshwanath Temple, which means it will connect with the two ghats of the Ganges River, also known as the River Ganga. The project will also transform the area of the temple, which means pilgrims will no longer walk through cramped lanes to reach the temple. 

  • 5000 Hectare Project 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the dream project will be built on an area of 5000 hectares. Before the project, the premises were limited to just around 3000 square feet. The main goal of the project is to make the experience for the pilgrims and the devotees better when they’re visiting the temple.

  • New Buildings 

On December 13, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated around 23 buildings. The buildings includes several facilities for pilgrims, which includes:

  • Around 300 Properties Acquired For The Project 

A report suggests that the government had to acquire around 300 properties for the project.

An official government statement confirmed this, saying: “The project involved purchase and acquisitions of more than 300 properties around Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Prime Minister’s vision to take everyone along was the principle based on which mutual negotiations were done for these acquisitions.”

No other information about the acquisitions were shared by the government. 

  • Nearly 1,400 People Rehabilitated By The Project 

According to official data, around 1,400 people were rehabilitated by the project. In the same statement that we mentioned above, the official said that the project amicably rehabilitated around 1400 shopkeepers, tenants, and homeowners.

1. The Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor Project in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, India, will be connecting the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the ghats along the Ganges River to make the experience of the pilgrims and devotees a better one.

6. Over 40 ancient temples were rediscovered during the work over the project. All those ancient temples were restored to make sure that there is no change to the original structure.
