The elderly woman decided to step in and did her best to rip off the balaclava in efforts to expose him.

A video of the incident was recorded by Darrell Johansen and they shared it on Facebook afterwards.

The post was then shared on Twitter, where it went viral and currently has over 1 million views.

Johansen shared the post on social media saying:

There’s nothing preventing private citizens from jumping in but it’s probably not recommended given the unfortunate incident that happened at our Walmart here a few months ago with that security guard getting stabbed. But I’ve just had it with this ****. I spotted this guy within five seconds of entering the store and knew he was about to run, and this is the result.

According to multiple reports, the incident happened at a Walmart supermarket in Campbell River, Canada.

The man was intercepted by the elderly lady and stopped the robbery from happening.

In the video, Johansen could be seen following the man as he dragged the trolley towards the exit of the store.

Johansen was repeatedly asking the man if he paid for the trolly.

As the robber was trying to leave, the elderly lady stopped the man and blocked him with her own trolley.

The woman then proceeded to call the man some bad words and slammed her trolley into his trolley and ripped off his mask.

The man then abandoned the trolley and left with his bike.

Johansen said that woman was not identified, however, he did note that the lady is a prime example of someone who can be considered as a partner in crime-fighting.

Johansen said that he had contacted the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and reported the incident, however, he was told that Walmart needed to make the call so they could take any action.

Maury Tyre, who works for the RCMP, said that the woman did the right thing, however, they do not really recommend doing it.

He said:

It’s not something that we can really recommend doing, because there have been some incidents that have definitely escalated to severe violence in the community. Some of the individuals that are stealing and taking things, taking carts full, commonly carry knives or bear spray, and when people take matters into their own hands, they have to understand that there is an inherent risk and even sometimes liability when they do so.

The elderly woman in the video is yet to be recognized.

Walmart did not release a statement about the incident.
