Counselling for NEET in 2020: Tentative Dates & Detailed Procedure

NEET is one of the most prestigious exams in India for all medical professionals in India. The exam is conducted by NTA (National Test Agency) and has over 15,00, 000 applicants every year. With the spread of COVID-19 pandemic, all entrance exams along with NEET are postponed, therefore you may expect revised dates for NEET counselling as well.

NEET has now become the only medium through which one can study medical science in India as per SC verdict. Medical Counselling Committee of the Directorate General of Health Services (MCC) will conduct the counselling for 15% AIQ. The remaining 85% will be conducted by State authorities separately. NEET Counselling is a procedure where top qualifying aspirants are called for counselling sessions to ensure admission to the colleges for studying MBBS, and other medicine-related courses.

NEET Counselling Important Dates

NEET has been postponed to July 26 due to COVID-19 pandemic; henceforth the counselling dates are also running behind schedule. The tentative schedule for NEET UG Counselling is provided in the below tables.

Few Updates on NEET and NEET Counselling

  • On May 15th, NTA decided to reopen NEET Form Correction window and extended the deadline till May 31st.
  • NTA is also planning to increase the number of NEET exam centres so as to accommodate 15 Lakh applicants.
  • The Supreme Court of India has now made it mandatory for all medical aspirants to appear for NEET. This also applies to AIIMS and JIPMER.
  • 15% of All India quota counselling is conducted by MCC and reserved for admission to central institutes like BHU, AMU, AFMC, ESI, Delhi University (DU), and other Deemed Universities.
  • The ESIC College & Vardhman Mahavir Medical College which was previously under the IPU administration will now be under MCC from this year onwards.

General Criteria of NEET Counselling 2020

  • Candidates need to secure 50th percentile (40th percentile for SC/ ST/ OBC and 45th percentile for handicapped) in NEET for 2020.
  • Candidates must register on the MCC website within a specified time as advised by the authority. This is a must-do thing for being eligible in the NEET 2020 counselling procedure.
  • Candidates who are belonging from the erstwhile state of Jammu & Kashmir cannot be a part of the NEET counselling process. But the qualifying candidates will be eligible in the All India Counselling for all the Deemed universities.
  • The state counselling authority will release the counselling schedule, merit list, & also the seat allotment list. Each state has its own specific rule, which is applicable for NEET. Candidates have to fulfil these specific criteria to take admission in a specific state.

NEET counselling: How to Register?

  • Firstly, you have to register online at mcc.nic.in. There will be a link to the registration form.
  • After that you must submit the application number, roll number, name, date of birth, mother name, mobile number and security pin.
  • Go to the MCC website and click on Candidate Login.
  • Now enter your roll number and password.
  • A new page will open where you will have to provide details like Name, Roll No., Registration No., Mother’s Name, and Contact No.
  • Click on the submit button.
  • Now, you can view all your details as per NTA database, just check the same and confirm. You must save this page.
  • The next process is the online fee payment process. Candidates have to pay two types of pay- one is refundable, and one is non-refundable within the stipulated time period.
  • After this, you must fill course choices & also preferable college or institute to take admission. You can fill as many choices based on preference.
  • Don’t forget to lock choices, editing is not possible post locking. Write short bullets.

NEET Counselling: MCC Releasing results of seat Allotment

  • After one single round of counselling, the seat allotment result will be announced. Aspirants can check their details in the specific NEET seat allotment list.
  • The seat allotment letter is a mandatory document at the admission time.
  • After getting the seat allotment, students have to report at their designated college and complete the documentation process for admission.
